The story began as a kid.
Scott grew up around woodworking. His dad, Keith, established a state of the art woodshop where he spent much of his time. Scott observed and assisted his dad often and learned much of what he knows about woodworking in those early years. After Keith’s unfortunate passing, Scott inherited the shop but did little more than utilize it for home repairs or personal fabrication. It wasn’t until he stumbled across a cutting board left unfinished by his dad did he discover his true passion for creating with wood.
That first cutting board was finished just as an honor to Keith’s work with little more thought to making more. It was displayed when Scott’s wife opened their home to the local craft show, Holidays In Hartford. Scott had made a few other things to sell for that craft fair but it was the board that created quite a buzz. It gave way to many compliments and a lot of encouragement to make more! Including questions about customizing the size and thickness of the boards. It didn’t take long before the creativity started to flow.
Of course, with modern technology, the internet became not only a source of inspiration but a way for Scott to really hone his craft. It was through Pinterest and YouTube that Scott began to uncover new tools and techniques to really make his boards come to life. These cutting boards are each handcrafted carefully with attention to detail and are completely food safe and environmentally friendly. No stain is used. Each piece of wood is unique in its own way. Variations in tone and color of the wood grains are natural on these cutting boards. Some boards may be darker or lighter due to grain variations.
Food safe mineral oil and beeswax have been applied to help retain the integrity of the wood against moisture and drying. We hope you will find as much joy in owning one as we have in creating them. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact us at esseproducts@gmail.com
Cutting board care.
Proper care of your board is important to maintain the beauty and to keep it food safe. Wash your board with soap and warm water and dry immediately. If boards are left to dry, do so on a vented surface. Never lay your board flat to dry and never leave it in standing water. Once the board is completely dry, use a food safe mineral oil thoroughly. This keeps blood and bacteria from getting into the wood fibers and should be done at the very least, monthly.
